Internet, Chat, irssi

Difficulty: easy

Tested on/for:
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
should work on other Linux/Unices, too

This document is about adding a simple, not very powerfull, spellchecking support to the famous irc client irssi.

Commands are marked with a leading #

Step 1

Install the needed packages.

# sudo apt-get install ispell liblingua-ispell-perl

Step 2

Download the spell-checking perl-script to your irssi scripts directory.

# cd ~/.irssi/scripts/
# wget http://scripts.irssi.org/scripts/spell.pl

Step 3

Load the script and bind a key.
Just copy and paste the following lines to irssi

/script load spell.pl
/bind meta-s /_spellcheck
/set spell_max_guesses 3

Now you can check spelling by pressing alt+s.
Dont expect toomuch.
