This HowTo describe in short steps the compilation of the Wirelessdriver provided by the Compat Wirless Project.
The Projectpage is located at

http://linuxwireless.org/

For a list of supported NIC and Chips see

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Devices

The steps are tested under Ubuntu
Linux nick 2.6.32-18-generic #27-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 26 19:51:10 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Update you headerfiles:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential

Download the actual Compat_Wireless source from

http://linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/

Then unpack, compile and install the driver

tar jxvf compat-wireless-2010*.tar.bz2

cd compat-wireless-2010-<change-this>/

make install clean

After a reboot your wirless nic should be regonized:

use the

 ifconfig

command to check this.

With

iwlist wlan0 scan

You can search for Accesspoints.

thx,
bubulein
